After receiving a BFA in Painting and Drawing from Drake University in Des Moines, IA, and an MFA in Painting from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI, I was awarded a Graduate Scholarship to participate in an exchange program through the University of Michigan with Germany's State Art Academy in Karlsrhue. In 1988, I returned to my hometown, Omaha, NE, where I continued developing and exhibiting my paintings. In 1996, I accepted a teaching position at Bloomsburg University where I have continued to refine my paintings. I have received numerous awards including a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, and have exhibited my work nationally. In my work I have endeavored to imbue our daily experiences with heightened significance through a rigorous analysis of each subjects formal potential. My objective is to remedy our detachment from the routines of life by revealing their beauty and symbolic potential. To that end, I have brought historical iconographic traditions into a contemporary context to engage and question cultural assumptions about aesthetics, spirituality, and social responsibility.
