FRONT END PARKING 
Just a helpful reminder to everyone about parking on campus. Please make sure to always park front-end in and don’t pull through parking spots. Please be aware that all the parking lots are posted accordingly by designated permit locations. All parking locations are enforced.  

COMMUNITY POLICING EVENTS 
Bloomsburg University Police Officers participated in a Touch A Truck Community event hosted by the Salem Township Police Department. Thank you to Officer Vern Petty, who represented our department.  
University Officers participated and assisted with the DEI Lunch Time Cookout that was held at the Student Service Center Patio. The event was a huge success, and everyone who attended had a wonderful time.  

TRAFFIC & SAFETY AWARENESS 
A helpful reminder to our campus community to be mindful of your traveling speed on Schuyler Drive and Pettit Way. The roadways are clearly posted for our campus community's safety. If you see any traffic hazards, please contact BUPD immediately. In the meantime, our Officers will monitor and patrol the area to enhance safety awareness.

Spring Commencement Traffic

Be alert for a change in traffic patterns due to Spring Commencement on Saturday, May 13.

Parking During Commencement

Officers and staff will be on hand to assist with parking. Designated areas for handicapped parking will be available.

Clear Bag Policy will be in effect

Clear bag policy will be in effect for both events. Any bags brought into the event must be clear. Only small “clutch” style purses are permitted.

The following items are prohibited during commencement:

  • Large purses
  • Strollers
  • Coolers
  • Briefcases
  • Backpacks
  • Wrapped gifts
  • Diaper bags
  • Computer bags
  • Luggage
  • Cinch bags
  • Fanny packs
  • Camera bags 
  • Umbrellas

Walking on Roadways is Prohibited

Due to safety concerns and heavy vehicle traffic, please refrain from walking on roadways. Please utilize sidewalks, crosswalks, and designated crossing areas.

Front End Parking

After winter break we just want to remind everyone about parking on campus. Please do not back vehicles into parking stalls or pull-through parking spots. The campus parking regulations require front-end parking only.  Please be aware that all the parking lots are monitored and ticketed.   

Metered Parking

Recently the Police Department has been receiving questions about Metered Parking, specifically the bookstore lot near Elwell Hall. If you plan to park in this lot please remember to use the meters. This parking lot closes at 10 PM every night, and no vehicles are authorized to park overnight. 

Community Policing

BUPD will be attending multiple events in the next few weeks. If your department is hosting an event and would like BUPD to attend please contact our office.

The Bloomsburg University Police stayed busy over the summer and officers attended the following trainings:

The department's Community Relations Officers presented students with information about alcohol awareness and Pennsylvania’s Amnesty Law in conjunction with staff from Residence Life.

Bloomsburg University Police want to remind everyone on campus that we are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. An officer is always available and there is always someone at the station to speak with. Just call 570-389-2211 or stop in.

Parking reminder

SPAM

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month (SPAM). Remember you can always call or text 988 if you or someone you know is struggling or in a crisis. Also, BUPD is always available if you need to reach out to someone and we can get you the help you need.

BUPD Information Table

BUPD Officers will be set up at Kehr Union from Monday, April 18 through Friday, April 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to provide safety tips for large events off-campus, including medical amnesty laws.

Officers Attended the Criminal Justice Association

BUPD officers were recently invited to speak at the Criminal Justice Association meeting. Officers shared stories of what it is like to work in law enforcement. BUPD looks forward to more opportunities like this.

CSO Recognized for Help with Medical Call

BUPD Community Service Officer (SRO) Erik Josephson was recognized for his services during a medical emergency on campus. BUPD is fortunate to have CSOs working on campus who are able to assist BU PD in different situations.

Be Alert to Scams through Social Media

BUPD has received complaints of scams being conducted through social media outlets such as Snapchat. Officers urge students to be cautious of meeting people online and sharing pictures with people they do not know.

New Faces Coming to BUPD

In the coming weeks, BUPD will be hiring two new full-time police officers to replace two officers who have left the force. 

Criminal Justice Forum

The BUPD is reaching out to the campus community to join us in an open forum. This forum would give insight into criminal justice and law enforcement careers. Rape Aggression Defense Classes (R.A.D.)

Classes for the R.A.D. systems will be held at Bloomsburg University from Monday through Wednesday, March 14-16. For more information or to sign up, contact Jennifer Raup (jraup@bloomu.edu).

BUPD Community Service Officer Program

As a reminder BUPD employees students in our Community Service Officer (CSO) Program. These individuals can be spotted around campus and are identifiable by their bright yellow shirts. These individuals are here to help with tasks such as; walking escorts, vehicle assists, traffic control, parking enforcement and can be seen at most campus events. If anyone is interested in this program contact BUPD at 570-389-2211.
