KEYWORDS

Athletic Coach Emeritus, Emeritus

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The policy is presented

  • To reflect the unique nature of athletic coaches
  • To provide consistency in application of emeritus status.

POLICY

Eligibility

To be eligible for emeritus status at Bloomsburg University, an athletic coach must:

  1. Have retired or resigned as an athletic coach of Bloomsburg University.
  2. Have served with distinction for a minimum of ten (10) years at Bloomsburg University.
  3. Be nominated to the Bloomsburg University president by majority vote of athletic coaches.

Procedure for Conferring Emeritus Status

  • After an athletic coach has declared his/her intent to retire or resign from the university and this has been accepted by the president of the university, it is the responsibility of the athletic coaches to consider emeritus status for that individual.
  • Within one calendar year after the athletic coach has retired/resigned, the athletic coaches shall conduct the nomination of the athletic coach for emeritus status. If a majority of the athletic coaches concurs, the nomination shall be forwarded, to the Athletic Director. The Athletic Director will then forward the nomination to the division vice president, with the written justification describing why the individual should be awarded emeritus status. The vice president will forward his/her recommendation along with the accompanying vote and written justification to the university president.
  • The president may then recommend emeritus status for the athletic coach and present his/her recommendation at a regular meeting of the Council of Trustees for its action.
  • Copies of the emeritus conferring letter will be sent to Andruss Library, the Community Activities Office, the Vice President for University Advancement and the Vice President for Administration and Finance in order to provide notification that privileges are to be conferred.
