Weather Policy

BU's recreation facilities are generally open for use seven days a week regardless of inclement weather. All or portions of facilities may be forced to close if directly impacted by the weather.

  • If classes are operating on a compressed schedule, the Rec will open at 6 a.m.
  • If classes are canceled for whatever reason, the Rec will open at 9 a.m., unless conditions are too severe.
  • Formal programs such as aerobics, intramurals, club sports, etc. may be cancelled or postponed due to playing conditions and instructor travel.
  • BU's Today page and Twitter will have weather-related schedule changes.

A place for convenient, fun and stress free recreation where you can run the indoor track, enjoy a quick game of racquetball, or join an aerobics class. The Rec is generally open seven days per week regardless of weather.

What is CrossFit?

CrossFit is constantly varied, high intensity, functional movements. That doesn’t mean much to most people. What CrossFit is to us is a great way at improving your fitness level and all around health. It’s about constantly improving and being the best you can be.

CrossFit is truly for everyone, from elite lifters to elderly women will and train together which builds a great surrounding and a fun place to work out at.

The Rec's Services and Facilities

Services include wireless Internet access in the lounge, free personal training (570) 389-4822, guest passes, free lock rentals, accessibility services, equipment check-out, facility reservations, racquet ball court reservations, rec center space reservations, locker rooms with showers, first aid and vending machines.

Fitness Room - A 6,000 square-foot cardiovascular area featuring a variety of equipment, including Precor and Star Trac ellipticals and treadmills, climbers, stationary and recumbent bikes, Arc Trainers and complete Cybex strength training circuit.

Weight Room - A 6,000 square-foot free weight area featuring Cybex and Body Master's benches, squat racks, a multi-station cable cross, a dead-lift area and complete set of barbells/dumbbells up to 100 lbs.

Multi-Purpose Room - A specially designed floating wood floor used for aerobics classes, martial arts, club and intramural meetings, wellness classes, dance and floor exercise. The Rec offers a full schedule of aerobic and group exercise classes throughout the week.

Main Arena - Composed of four 84' x 50' basketball courts utilized for indoor tennis and volleyball. A 1/8 mile jogging track circles the basketball courts. A fifth court is located in an adjacent gymnasium.

Racquetball Courts - Four glass backed racquetball courts that are also adaptable for wallyball.

Jogging Track - An one-eighth mile jogging track surrounding four of the multi-use courts.

Climbing Wall - A 30-foot Entre prises imprint climbing wall and free from boulder area is located just off the lobby.
