Add to Calendar 2023-03-30 19:30:00 2023-03-30 20:30:00 Charisse Baldoria Piano Concert On Thursday, March 30, at 7:30 PM in Carver Hall, Dr. Charisse Baldoria will give a solo piano concert while showing images by local artists Clay Corbin (also an ornithologist and Bloomsburg biology professor), Doug Gross (a local ornithologist), and Ashley Lopez (a Bloomsburg alumna and co-owner of The Art Grind), as well as Philippine National Artist Abdulmari Imao. Titled “Mirrors,” the concert considers how humans and the world reflect each other—and modify each other along the way. On the program are Maurice Ravel’s Miroirs, two Pennsylvania premieres of compositions by Dr. Baldoria, and a bird-inspired set of works by Enrique Granados, Amy Beach, Bernardino Custodio, Federico Mompou, and Takashi Yoshimatsu. Dr. Baldoria will also perform her Sea Lion Sonatina along with videos of the Galapágos sea lions taken during her recent trip there.  Dr. Baldoria is a prize-winning pianist who has performed on five continents. Her newest album, Godowsky in Asia, features the complete Java Suite and other Asia-inspired works. She has collaborated with dancers, visual artists, performance artists, and musicians from various traditions. As a composer, her works have been performed around the US and abroad and draw from literature, improvisation, jazz, Latin music, popular music, gamelan, and Western styles. A finalist of the DISQUIET Literary Prize in nonfiction, her prose and poetry appear or are forthcoming in CutBank, Passengers, Windmill: The Hofstra Journal of Literature & Art, and others.
