Romano, the first woman CIO at South Jersey Industries and a Bloomsburg Alumna, will give a talk, “Breaking through Barriers and Leading,” on Tuesday, April 2, at 3:30 p.m. in Kehr Union, Multipurpose Room 345A.Romano has been a trailblazer throughout her career as an information technology executive. After graduating from Bloomsburg University, she started her career at a multinational agricultural equipment manufacturer, where she rose through the ranks. She continued her career path at QVC before landing at SJI as vice president of product development and governance. Recently, she was appointed as the first woman chief information officer of the utility holding company that provides natural gas to more than 725,000 customers in New Jersey. Throughout her career, Romano has been an outstanding leader and role model for women of all ages and skill levels. She leads the charge, promoting and empowering women who collaborate with her to make key decisions and stand by their judgment, creating an atmosphere of positivity and confidence in the individuals. Barbara promotes women’s equality and rights for the underrepresented by mentoring underrepresented women at SJI. She understands the importance of speaking and acting in the spirit of collaboration by leading and inspiring other women, encouraging them to think big, do the right thing, and deliver results. “Barriers are obstacles and challenges we face on a daily basis," she says.
