New Student Orientation

Every journey needs a map. Chart your course to the top at orientation.

Commonwealth University is excited to welcome our new students to the Bloomsburg campus for an exciting and informative orientation program. Below you will find information regarding our orientation programs, but first, let's talk about why it is so important.

We require that students attend orientation...yes, it is required.  It is required because national research (as well as our own in-house research) shows that participation in orientation is one of the best ways to support college success.  Every decision we make as an institution is driven by just that.  What is best for our students.

Our Mission:

Undergraduate Student Orientation is designed to provide you with the tools and information that will allow you to be successful at Commonwealth University. We strive for a smooth transition to your new academic and social experiences.

How Students Benefit from Orientation:

  • Gain a better understanding of academic expectations, policies, and procedures.
  • Feel prepared to transition to college life at CU
  • Make connections new and current students
  • Connect with faculty and staff
  • Become familiar with campus resources available to all students
  • Familiarize yourself with the people and places necessary for your success at CU
  • Gain a clearer understanding of their role as a college student
  • Strengthen the student-supporter/family- Commonwealth U partnership (which we believe strongly in)

Husky Orientation and Welcome Leaders, or H.O.W.L.'s as we affectionately refer to them, are highly trained student leaders whose job is to help new students adjust to life at Bloomsburg University. There are more than 60 spirited and talented HOWLs who will serve as your personal hosts and share their experiences, tips and strategies for success.

HOWLs range from rising sophomores to seniors and cover nearly every major offered at BU. They live on and off-campus and are each involved in an average of at least three other student organizations on campus. Each of the HOWLs are individually unique yet collectively united and work on making this the best transition for each student by welcoming you in true Husky fashion.
