A candidate for graduation for the bachelor degree must have earned a 2.00 or higher cumulative quality point average, satisfied the residence requirements, and completed all academic and other applicable requirements.

Graduation from Bloomsburg University requires the successful completion of at least 120 semester hours, to include:

  • Completion of the curriculum of an approved major;
  • Completion of general education requirements.
  • An average of 2.00 or higher in all courses required by the major.

All students earning a first baccalaureate degree will take at least 30 of their last 45 credits at Bloomsburg University, no more credits are required than the 30 credits. All first baccalaureate students will take at least 50% of credits required for the Major from a PASSHE university. Bloomsburg University may require up to a maximum of 50% of the Major credits. Program exceptions to the policy are to be approved by the Office of the Chancellor.

All students earning a first associate degree will take at least 15 of their last 30 credits at Bloomsburg University, no more credits are required than the 15 credits. All first associate students will take at least 50% of credits required for the Major from a PASSHE university. Bloomsburg University may require up to a maximum of 50% of the Major credits. Program exceptions to the policy are to be approved by the Office of the Chancellor.

Course substitutions will follow all program to program agreements and the approved transfer equivalences for the program of study. Exceptions to residence and curriculum requirements, including course substitutions, may be considered by the appropriate college dean in consultation with the appropriate department chairperson.

Credit for the Major includes cognate courses in related disciplines. For information regarding what constitutes cognate courses, see PASSHE Policy 1990-06-A. BA degree is not to exceed 42 semester credits and BS Degree will have a minimum of 40 semester credits but not to exceed 60 semester credits. Program exceptions to the policy are to be approved by the Chancellor.

For active duty service members the residency requirement shall not include a final year.
