President’s Commission on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion


The President’s Commission on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is appointed by the president and charged with examining diversity, equity and inclusion practices, recommending a vision for diversity, equity and inclusion to the president, recommending high-impact action steps, and assessing the implementation of those action steps.

Commission Charge

The President’s Commission on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is appointed by the president and charged with the following actions:

  • Examine current diversity, equity and inclusion practices at BU
  • Recommend to the president a vision for BU that demonstrates an institutionalized, sustainable, and enduring commitment to actualizing the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Recommend to the president high impact action steps that reflect best practices across the nation. These recommendations will comprise a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Action Plan.
  • Monitor and assess the implementation of the recommended action steps (i.e. the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Action Plan) in collaboration with appropriate university entities such Cabinet, Leadership Council, Forum, etc.

The Upward Together: Outstanding Contributions in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Awards

At Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, we believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion are the cornerstones upon which we build our success. Therefore, the President’s Commission on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion would like to recognize members of our Bloomsburg University community for their efforts in making our institution a better place through awarding our inaugural Upward Together: Outstanding Contributions in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Awards. One award will be given to a faculty member at Bloomsburg University, another will be given to a staff member, and yet another award will be given to a current student. Please find the list of required criteria below to nominate someone you feel deserves one of these awards.

Required Criteria for Nomination:

1. Letter of Support: The letter of support should detail how you believe the nominee significantly contributed to making Bloomsburg University a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive (DEI) community. The letter should be at least 500 words.

2. Supporting Document(s): You must submit at least 1 supporting document that demonstrates the nominee’s significant contributions. Some examples of accepted supporting documents include event documentation, civic or other club involvement, exceptional research outside of the nominee’s required responsibilities, and excellent DEI initiatives or projects.

3. Optional Additional Information: Please feel free to include any other relevant information you feel demonstrates the nominee’s impact and/or innovation regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion. Some examples include quotations from faculty, staff, students, or community members that demonstrates the nominee’s impact, data showing the nominee’s impact, and/or supporting videos.
