Commonwealth University Applications Up 22%; Merit Scholarship Consideration Remains Open

Interest in Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania and its Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, Mansfield, and Clearfield campuses is at an all-time high, with applications for admission currently up more than 22% for the incoming 2024-25 class, including a 39% increase in applications from transfer students. Application for admission for Fall 2024 will remain open through the coming spring and summer.

Due to unprecedented demand and Commonwealth U’s commitment to providing an affordable education, the CU Admissions Office will continue to evaluate the potential to offer merit scholarships to the incoming class of first-time, first-year students despite the Dec. 15 merit scholarship deadline having passed.

Prospective students should complete their applications to Commonwealth University as soon as possible for scholarship consideration. Students can apply to any or all the Commonwealth University campuses – Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, Mansfield, and Clearfield – through a single application at CommonwealthU.edu.

“We know how important scholarships are in making a degree attainable,” explained Dr. Stephen Lee, vice president of enrollment management at Commonwealth University. “We've frozen tuition the past five years and are proud to offer robust merit scholarships that significantly reduce the cost of attending college. We’re pleased to see that students and their supporters have taken notice of the outstanding opportunities at Commonwealth University and the transformative degrees we provide.”

Commonwealth University has agreements with 60 school districts in Pennsylvania that provide up to $28,000 in merit scholarship for qualifying first-year students at participating high schools. Qualifying first-year Pennsylvania students outside those school districts may still be eligible for up to $20,000 in merit scholarship aid with out-of-state and international students having the potential to reduce the cost of tuition by more than 50% through scholarships.

Transfer students are also eligible for merit scholarships at Commonwealth University. Anyone interested in transferring to a CU campus should complete an application by March 15 for full scholarship consideration.

Students can determine their potential  scholarship eligibility based on their grade point averages by logging on to CommonwealthU.edu/value.

Students who are considering attending college should be prepared to fill out their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form to unlock additional grants, scholarships, loans, and employment opportunities to help pay for college. This year, the FAFSA opens on Dec. 31.

Commonwealth University offers more than 80 innovative academic programs across its four locations preparing students for success through a fully revised academic curriculum with experiential learning opportunities that provide impactful, real-world skills.
