Lock Haven University Alumni Association announces 2023 CU-Lock Haven Homecoming festivities

Commonwealth University-Lock Haven will hold its 2023 homecoming festivities from Sept. 20-23, including hosting its annual on-campus Lawn Party and Golf Cart Parade, the 29th annual Alumni Classic, the 50th class reunion of the Class of 1973, the Bald Eagle football team battling East Stroudsburg University, and more.

The festivities begin Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. with the annual Golf Cart Parade beginning on North Fairview Street to Ivy Lane on campus, followed by the Lawn Party on the Poorman Commons from 7-9 p.m. The Lawn Party will feature free candy, ice cream, lawn games, music and other fun activities. The theme for this year’s Golf Cart Parade is “Haven & Homecoming in Harmony.”

The university community will participate in the Keystone Central School District Homecoming Parade in downtown Lock Haven on Thursday, Sept. 21, beginning at 6 p.m. The parade will begin at the intersection of Henderson and Water Streets, and run up Main Street to the Lock Haven Post Office.

On Friday, Sept. 22, the activities begin at Belles Springs Golf Course at 9:30 a.m. with a shotgun start of the 29th annual Alumni Golf Classic Golf Tournament, hosted by the Lock Haven University Alumni Association. Registration will open at 8:30 a.m. Anyone interested in golfing can register at www.lockhaven.edu/alumni/AlumniGolfTournament.

At 11 a.m., the LHU Alumni Association will also host a craft-making event in the clubhouse at Belles Springs Golf Course. This year’s craft is pressed flower candles. Anyone interested in participating can register at www.lockhaven.edu/alumni/homecoming_craft_event.  

The events transition back to campus at 3 p.m, on Friday, when the Bald Eagle field hockey team takes on St. Joseph’s at Charlotte Smith Field. Recently-retired, legendary field hockey coach, Pat Rudy ’77 will be honored prior to the match.

At 5 p.m., the LHU Alumni Association will host the 50th Class Reunion Mix & Mingle for the Class of 1973 on the outdoor patio of the Durrwachter Alumni Conference (DACC), and inside the DACC, a mix & mingle for all Lock Haven alumni will occur. Both mix-&-mingle events will end at 8:30 p.m. Anyone interested in attending the mix & mingle can register at www.lockhaven.edu/alumni/homecomingalumnimixer.

The 2023 Lock Haven Athletics Hall of Fame will take place on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Haywood’s on the Green. This year’s inductees include Mark Waite, Blair Wynne, Dr. Ken Cox. Ward Hile, and the 1957 football team. Anyone interested in attending the Hall of Fame, should register at https://tinyurl.com/LHAthleticHOF.

Tailgating will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23 in the Hubert Jack Stadium parking lot. Tailgating passes are available for purchase at https://tinyurl.com/HavenTailgating.

There is also a full slate of on-campus events throughout the day on Saturday that are open to the public, including Lock Haven football vs. East Stroudsburg at 1 p.m. at Hubert Jack Stadium. Tickets can be bought at the gate.

The university will also provide free bus service on Saturday to help visitors around campus. The bus will run a continuous loop from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., making stops at Thomas Field House, the Durrwachter Alumni Conference Center, Zimmerli parking lot and Hubert Jack Stadium.

The University Store will also be open Wednesday through Saturday. Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
